It would take the Game Gear release (which, given how GG/SMS stuff worked, is probably the exact same game) before Woody Pop came to the west.

I know because I actually had this game as a kid for my Game Gear. It's good. I didn't have a lot of experience with breakout/Arkanoid clones as a kid, so I can't really compare it readily to its main competitors. However, I remember enjoyed it a fair amount. It was decently well designed; it had a lot of different power-ups; and there was a lot going on.killias2https://www.blogger.com/profile/00398131197947456691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186345736950611814.post-18413794251489833842010-05-12T21:34:35.202-07:002010-05-12T21:34:35.202-07:00GREAT BASKETBALL Kept forgetting there was a time...GREAT BASKETBALL Kept forgetting there was a time when we'd have sports games where you'd be head-to-head with our Iron Curtain buds.

ROCKY
At least you didn't call it a "button-masher" like the AVGN would say!

ZILLION
Those names in the game were in the show anyway, so blame the Japanese or coming up with some goofy names as usual. The series had several episodes dubbed into English by Streamline Pictures in the early 90's, but more recently, fansubbed episodes can be found out there in BitTorrent-Land. The SMS Light Phaser gun that came with the system was inspired by the gun on this show obviously.

One shot from the Zillion anime even got used in a Michael & Janet Jackson video, "Scream", so it's got some mileage down the road.

ALEX KIDD HIGH TECH WORLD
Funny thinking that Rockwell tune is probably best known nowadays thanks to Geico's usage of it in their ads (the music video alone has that opening shot of someone bringing in the morning paper printed in Japanese if only to bring it back to topic).Chris Sobieniakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838106041175506925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186345736950611814.post-58246361023516289812009-04-20T23:43:00.000-07:002009-04-20T23:43:00.000-07:00Some points:

Also, you could stay away from Amiga, Apple, PC, and DOS games as well (is Chronogamer going to do that)?

I think people are asking about the megadrive and SNES only because it logically follows a progression from your current selection.

It's up to you of course what you decide to do after you've finished with your current work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186345736950611814.post-82229563679460723022009-04-16T18:58:00.000-07:002009-04-16T18:58:00.000-07:00Thanks for the speedy heads-up on this, guys. Sorry for the hassle, but I'm still not sure what's causing the problem.

JJ (How appropriate for this episode!) : I've had a few other folks say I should cover more systems. An interesting idea, though I'm not sure if that would "dilute the brand" of Chronsega. Also I fear stepping on the toes of the guy behind Chronogamer, who is already covering "all" consoles, as insane as that sounds.

If I do cover other systems, I have to figure out a way to deal with the repetition involved when games start being released on multiple platforms. I'll post something about this soon.Doctor Sparklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328442015557051088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186345736950611814.post-68681861084495172642009-04-15T12:03:00.000-07:002009-04-15T12:03:00.000-07:00The sound drift is in the original file, too. At least in the streamed version (the one I watched), the sound goes gradually more and more out of sync with the video. Which is a bit confusing, at least for a person with my limited capabilities. :)

Other than that, great stuff as usual. It's amazing how much better the Master System games look when compared to contemporary NES/Famicom titles.

You keep mentioning the Mega Drive, can we expect future series of Chron-Mega Drive and Chron-SNES? That would be enough to keep both you and us viewers occupied for quite a few years, I guess. :)Jungman Janssonnoreply@blogger.com
