Hey Everyone, thanks for checking in. Episode 44 of Chron-CD-i is not ready yet. But let me tell you, it's going to be a doozy, with many classic games such as
Mad Dog McCree and
Flintstones and Jetsons: Timewarp. As you know, each episode of Chron-CD-i takes around 500 man-hours to produce, and this episode should be ready by mid-July.

You heard me right, Mad Dog McCree! Woot! |
However, as a little treat, I've got a sneak preview. Now don't get too excited, but one of the games featured in the new Chron-CD-i is one of the most illustrious releases for the console ever,
Mario Hotel! I personally feel that
Hotel Mario had the potential to be a real system-seller. After all, it took an popular existing character, Mario, and brought him into the modern gaming age. Yep, no more crude, pixelated graphics or bloop-bloop-bleep music! Nope,
Hotel Mario brought beautifully animated FMV and CD quality music to the series. Really, the game should have brought Mario into the multimedia age, but, as usual, antipathy from critics, gamers, and the population at large prevented it from being the huge hit it deserved to be. Once again, a nation of gamers brainwashed by Nintendo and Sega overlooked a real gem of a game on the CD-i.
I have to apologize for the quality of the video. I was having problems with my microphone, and if I sound a little out of it, please be aware my doctor currently has me on prescription of dilaudid, paxil and oxycontin. Anyway, check back shortly, in 2-3 months, for the latest episode in the only video podcast dedicated to the most underrated console of all time, the Philips CD-i!

It's always astounded me that Fantasy Factory just disappeared after releasing such an innovative title. Perhaps there's something to be said for humility in the gaming industry, though. I'm sure if Nintendo had come up with the idea for Hotel Mario, those lazy bastards would still be bragging about it today.
Really excited for the new episode! Keep up the hard work giving the CD-i the respect it truly deserves.
Brilliant! Finally someone acknowledges this incredibly underrated game, surely the best of the long running Mario series! I am looking forward to see the rest of the episode soon!
(It would really be awesome to see "Chron-CD-i" become a real project. It can't take more than one or two episodes to cover all of it, and I am sure no one has ever attempted to play all CD-i games ever made, despite there being so few. :)
The best decision Nintendo ever made was to give Phillips the license to use Nintendo characters. Showed Nintendo a thing or two about what direction their popular franchises should take. Sadly, Nintendo didn't take the hint and we're left with the crappy Mario and Zelda games we see today.
It astounds me that the lowest common denominator morons who call themselves video game fans find the wonderful full motion video scenes from Hotel Mario and the other Nintendo licensed games to be nothing more than fodder for so called "Youtube Poops". What a slap in the face to the legacy these excellent and woefully underrated seminal classics have left. Rest in peace CD-i.
It ist sad that this project wasn't as succesful as it could have been, finally a great jointventure between the eastern Nintendo and the dutch Philips. Two giants of entertainment finally working together, but battled by the hegemonial Sony and...whoever didn't like dutch people in the US. It didn't catch up in europe, because when european think about the Netherlands, we just think about what is legalized there.
But after all the CD-i will have an eternal place in the VG Hall-of-Fame, just think about the seemless blend of Gameplay and FMV in the Zelda games, or the best interactive movie in the history of ever, "Plumbers don't wear ties". It still sends chills down my spine just writing that title.
Link: "Gee, it sure is boring around here..."
Link: "Oh boy! I'm so hungry, I could eat an Octorok!
The King: "MAH BOI, this peace is what all true warriors strive for!"
Link: "I just wonder what Ganon's up to!"
I don't know, Dr.Sparkle, seems to me that we're 44 episodes in, and we still haven't seen any actual CD-i gameplay. I mean, I know every music CD technically counts as a release for the system, but it seems like you're just teasing us now. Half the time I'm not even sure you're singing the right lyrics - did Ace of Base really use that much profanity? Do the songs to Transformers: The Movie technically count as a "Rock Opera"?
But hey, if this is the episode where you finally "kick the 3d0's ass", more power to you. I'm willing to give it another shot.
While Hotel Mario was later trumped as the best in the series by Mario 64 there is yet to be a Zelda entry to trump Hotel Mario's sister CDi project, Zelda's Adventure.
To this day it remains equally the toast of the typical chauvinist Hoi polloi gamer demographic as well as , surprisingly, feminists by virtue of being the only game in the series where you play exclusively as the series namesake Zelda for once.
No saving this princess, Link, how does the shoe feel now that it is on the other foot?
lol
Bah. 3d0 ur NUTHinG!
Wow. It really sounded like it -hurt- to talk about SMW like that. Like you really had to force it.
Are you stupid or what? SMW rules. I admit, the graphics aren't as nice and stuff but retro. I never played Super Mario Hotel but it is the worst game ever (even so the graphics totally blow up my mind!)
